7 home remedies to delay periods

7 home remedies to delay periods

Those who get periods may frequently wish they could postpone them. Periods can cause cramps, mood changes, breast tenderness, bloating, and other PMS symptoms, in addition to monthly blood discharge. As a result, one may feel compelled to postpone their period, especially if they are traveling or have an important event to attend. There are numerous tips, ranging from working out to drinking vinegar water, for naturally postponing periods. Here are a few easy ways to delay periods.

Home remedies for delaying one’s period might or might not be successful. Some people might have success with it, while others might not. Or, in most cases, the remedy might work the first time but not the second. There is not enough scientific evidence to support the idea that natural remedies can delay one’s menstrual cycle. However, these can reduce symptoms and make periods more bearable.

Some of the easy ways to delay periods are as follows:

  • Drinking lime juice for delaying period
Since lime juice is acidic and potent in vitamin C, it may reduce bleeding and delay the start of one’s period. Many believe that adding a few drops of lemon juice to hot water and drinking it every day for at least a week before one’s period will cause it to be delayed.
  • Massaging the abdomen with oils
It is believed that massaging one’s abdomen with oil can help relieve menstrual cramps. It is also believed that uterine massages can delay periods. It does not, however, ensure that one’s periods will be delayed; this goes for other remedies as well. One can, however, give it a shot.
  • Adding gelatin to lukewarm water
Another remedy that might help one delay their menstrual cycle is gelatin. It has been suggested that consuming gelatin mixed in lukewarm water might postpone the start of one’s period by up to a few hours. One must keep in mind that having too much gelatin might lead to bloating and digestive issues and necessarily exacerbate existing period symptoms.
  • Exercising
Doing high-intensity exercises can cause the brain to experience stress, which may aid in delaying periods. However, those who engage in intensive exercise are also more likely to experience amenorrhea, the loss of a normal menstrual cycle, and other hormonal issues. This is why one must be cautious and do any form of exercise with caution.
  • Eating lentils
It is believed that eating fried gram lentils might delay periods. That said, there is no scientific proof suggesting that lentils help with delayed periods. One should be aware, however, that overeating lentils or other pulses may cause gastrointestinal troubles and flatulence. This, again, can exacerbate period symptoms.
  • Drinking apple cider vinegar
One’s periods can be naturally delayed by drinking apple cider vinegar. Try this home cure by mixing three tablespoons of apple cider vinegar with water at least a week before one’s period. Taking a few teaspoonfuls of apple cider vinegar with some water also has several other health benefits.
  • Consuming fewer spicy foods
Overeating spicy and hot meals can cause one’s period to come a day or two early. This is because of increased estrogen levels. If one wants to delay their period, they must avoid eating spicy meals a few days before it.

Coping with urges that can trigger a relapse post treatment

Addictions when left untreated can turn into crippling conditions. One can be addicted to smoking, binge drinking, or even shopping. Once addicted, one willfully submits to urges, despite having satisfied them before. However, addictions can be managed and to a great extent treated to full recovery. But, the post-recovery phase is crucial where both the mind and body are put to test and can trigger a relapse. Continue reading to know more about the most common triggers for addictions and how to deal with them.Stress Stress is commonly the root cause of many problems and addictions, both physical and psychological. One can become an addict as a way to manage the stress that may stem from strained relationships or priorities. The best way to avoid a relapse during recovery is to make lifestyle changes that don’t trigger a return to addictions amidst a stressful situation. One can practice mindfulness, engage in relaxation techniques, manage one’s time to avoid stressful situations, and imbibe healthy eating habits and exercise in their daily routine. EmotionsThere is an umpteen number of triggers that invoke a positive or negative emotional response. However, the stress associated with dealing with emotions daily can trigger urges without one even realizing. Often, one turns to a glass of alcohol or relies on prescription medications to put the mind at ease. It is not a permanent solution and prolonged use of these substances can cause more harm in the long run. One must learn and explore productive ways of controlling emotions better to avoid a relapse during recovery. For example, writing and maintaining a journal that contains one’s feelings and thoughts can act as a healthy outlet. Similarly, there are other healthy ways to channel one’s energy and manage emotional responses.Positive conditioningPeople who have addictions such as smoking or drinking may often find themselves in situations where a lit cigarette or a glass of wine can trigger a relapse. This is understandable considering these substances were the primary source of comfort and relaxation. However, with positive reinforcement and reconditioning one can train the mind and curb such urges. Relaxation doesn’t always mean techniques like yoga or meditation, it can also be pursuing your hobby. Counseling for group gatheringsBirthdays, parties, New Year’s events, and any celebration in general call for alcohol consumption and smoking. At times, these could be the very addictions one is recovering from, and in a social gathering, such temptations can be strong. However, a recovering addict should refrain from indulging in any of these as even a taste can turn into a relapse. For instance, a recovering alcoholic must avoid having a single drink as that could put him/her on a slippery slope to relapse. Here, one-on-one counseling can help prepare the mind to resist the urge. It is never healthy for a recovering addict to simply avoid socializing fearing a relapse.

5 early signs of weak bones and management tips

Bones are to the body as bricks to a building: they hold the structure upright and protect the organs. Bones also act as mineral powerhouses and facilitate the development of blood cells. Due to the various functions bones serve, they are indispensable to overall well-being. Consequently, weakening bones pose a health risk that should not be ignored. Here are some early signs of weakening bones and tips for strengthening the bones: Early signs Fractures due to brittle bones People with brittle bones may suffer from fractures with even the slightest of movements and deal with severe mobility issues as a result. Such abnormal fractures are typically signs of weak bones. Changes in posture Weak bones, particularly in the spine, can cause changes in posture, leading to stooping or bending forward. Problems with breathing Often, when the spinal bones are weak, one may suffer from breathing problems due to the inability of the ribs to expand fully. Thus, bone weakening is associated with shortness of breath. Fatigue Weak bones may cause difficulties sleeping, which can contribute to fatigue. Additionally, weak bones can lead to health conditions like osteoporosis, which may require treatment that causes side effects like extreme fatigue.  Changes in height A chronic stooped posture caused by weak bones may eventually lead to several postural issues and a consequent reduction in height. Besides these, brittle nails are also one of the early warning signs of weakening bones. Osteoporosis, a chronic bone disorder, can be diagnosed in its early stages on the basis of the brittleness of a person's nails. Tips for strengthening bones Increase calcium intake Bones are the most significant storehouses of calcium in the body. So, calcium is essential for strong bones and to prevent bone-related health conditions. Calcium-rich foods like dairy products (if one is not lactose intolerant), leafy greens, figs, salmon, and soybean should be a part of daily meals to increase calcium intake. Choose vitamin D-rich foods The body requires vitamin D to absorb calcium by deriving the hormone calcitriol through the vitamin. Some vitamin D-rich foods one must have regularly include salmon, tuna, sardines, beef liver, and mackerel. Avoid a sedentary lifestyle Movement is essential for bone health; however, many with weak bones face mobility issues, which interfere with their exercise routines. In such cases, it is best to consult the doctor and seek recommendations for suitable exercises. It is also advisable to move about frequently and avoid being seated in the same position for long periods. Stay hydrated Hydration is important not only for a good digestive system but also for absorbing nutrients from food. Consequently, staying hydrated helps strengthen the joints and facilitates stronger bones due to better absorption of calcium and vitamin D. It is advisable for all adults to drink approximately 6 to 8 glasses of water a day. Avoid processed foods A meal plan high in trans fats and sugar impedes calcium absorption in the body, leading to the weakening of bones. So, it is best to limit or avoid fast foods and replace them with healthy fats and complex carbohydrates.
